Old Englewood Village, near the bay, preserves a walkable, low-key commercial district with locally owned shops and restaurants, while the Lemon Bay Playhouse and the Lemon Bay Historical Society anchor the arts and history scene. Englewood's population skews toward retirees and seasonal residents, along with a smaller share of working families and remote professionals drawn by the waterfront lifestyle. The local economy leans on tourism, boating and marine services, health care, and construction, with many residents commuting to Port Charlotte, North Port, or Venice for work. Unlike more heavily developed Gulf Coast towns, Englewood has largely avoided high-rise construction, keeping its skyline low and its beaches relatively uncrowded.
